Getting bore of 9 to 5 routine jobs and metro life full of stress or getting tired of running after your dreams then Lansdown is the ideal destination for short break to know meaning of Life. Picturesque, calm and only 6 hours’ drive from Delhi makes this place ideal destination who want to get rid of stress and responsibilities for a while.

Lansdowne is getting popular in last couple of years and it is no more unexplored place as it was few years back. Although this tiny town in hills of Uttarakhand is still manage to retain its beauty and it’s still unspoiled. Place is much cleaner and well maintained because of cantonment area. Place has nothing to do much with limited average tourist attractions. Lansdowne is a  cantonment  town in  Pauri Garhwal  district in the  Indian   state  of  Uttarakhand and situated at a height of 5,600 ft. Small hill station was founded and named after then  Viceroy of India  (1888-1894),  Lord Lansdowne  in 1887.One can do long walks and admire the natural beauty. This was my second visit to this serene hill station and this time Tadkeshwar temple was another place in my list.

Left at around 6 am in the morning in my own car and reached at 10.30 am to Kotdwar. It is 40 Km before Lansdowne. Hills start from Kotdwar and you can see the difference in temperature and landscape.

Way to Lansdowne

It’s around one and half journey from Kotdwar to Lansdowne. After reaching around 12 pm, it took around an hour to get a room. But somehow I managed to get a small room with only single bed in it which cost me INR 1,000. Because of extended weekend, people were keep on coming. I did not have any other option and I couldn’t afford to miss that small room.

If you are planning to come on weekends, it’s advisable to get your room booked as stay options are limited.

I was little tired and decided to relax for a while. Lansdowne has nothing much to see and walking is the best way to explore small hill town of Lansdowne. In the evening around 3.30 pm I moved out for Tip-n-Top (Tourist Attraction). It’s around 3 Km from main chowk of Lansdowne.

St. Mary’s Church

On the way to Tip-n-Top you can also see Bhulla Lake and St. Mary’s Church.  View is good from Tip-n-Top and I spent some time there sitting alone, I came back to my hotel at 7 pm.

Next day woke up early to see the sun rise. I was all alone at sun rise point, it’s only 20 minutes’ walk to point from Lansdowne main chowk. After that I moved out for Tadkeshwar Temple. It around 40 Km from Lansdowne and took around one and half hour.

Tadkeshwar is all together a different experience for me.

Tadkeshwar Temple

Tadkeshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Knowing by the name of demon Tadkeshwar with Lord Shiva, Tadkeshwar Mahadev is a temple of faith and devotion. Demon Tadkeshwar worshipped here for boon. On day of Mahashivratri, temple full of devotees and thousands of bells encircled the temple which are offered by devotees. The temple place is surrounded by dense Deodars and its tranquil atmosphere make this place more beautiful.

Around Tadkeshwar

Personally I found this place more calm and relaxed than Lansdowne and find it more suitable for meditation and relaxation. I suggest you this place to spent a night there. There is Dharamshala at temple and you can stay there with prior information. Taxi is also available from Lansdowne to Tadkeshwar at a cost of around INR 1,200.

After spending a wonderful night it’s time to go back to the 9 to 5 job in cubical box.
