Snapshot of My Journey

Estimated Trip Cost               INR 3,000

Kheerganga is a holy place situated at 2960 meters and a place where Lord Shiva is said to have meditated for 3,000 years. Kheerganga trek has everything or you can say that it is nature at its best. You will see waterfall, river, mountains, café, Maggi point, Apple orchards and finally the highlight of trek is the natural hot water spring on the valley. Another reason which is no more hidden is the world’s best cream produced in valley and perhaps the wrong reason for large number of travelers in Parvati Valley.

About Kheerganga

This was my second attempt to cover Kheerganga, last one was unsuccessful because of bad weather. Trek starts from Barsheni village which has the last motorable road. Kheerganga is about 13-14 Kms trek. Boarded an overnight bus from Delhi to Kullu and got down at Bhuntar. From Bhuntar there are two options, one is taxi (Shared/Personal) which takes around 2 hours and cost you around 2k till Barsheni and another option is local bus which takes around 4 hours but cost you only INR 50. I opted the option of shared taxi from Bhuntar to Barsheni as next day I had my return ticket to Delhi.

Way to Kheerganga

I started my trekking soon after reaching Barsheni. The route was getting more scenic and close to nature as trek proceeded. Initially I was breathing out very frequently but after getting acclimatize to the condition trek became easier. Even the last stretch I found steeper.  When I was trekking, I found lots of giant trees fallen on the way. Another thing which I usually find on my other treks as well are the dogs which worked as guide for you and will trek along with you till last. There are two points where you can relax, first is Nathan Village (Last village on this trek) after trekking of around an hour and second one is Rudra Nag (One-hour trek from Nathan).

Beautiful View from the Wooden Bridge

The trail is easily identifiable and you will also find people on the way. After tiring trekking of around four and half hours I was at Kheerganga which was giving me a sense of pride.

Camps and Dormitory at Kheerganga

I threw my bag in the camp (500 INR per night) and moved towards the natural pool. I bathed in natural hot spring water surrounded by mountains under blue sky which was enough to relieve my tiredness. Initially water seemed to be very hot but gradually I started enjoying it. At the first time the hot water will definitely scare you. I spent enough time in the pool and did not want to come out of that. The hot water spring is clean and like a therapy. You will also find some milky threads in the water which is Kheer as per the ancient story there.

Natural Hot Water Pool

Kheerganga is also known for stars’ night. Spending a night under the stars and that too so closely you feel like touching them, is really a different experience which is hard to find in our cities.

Next morning after breakfast I started descending to Barsheni. It took me around two and a half hours.

Kheerganga Amazing View

Note: Only Airtel network  is there. Carry as lightweight as you can. Don’t carry excess water bottles and food stuff in order to save money as it’s going to make your trekking difficult. You will get everything on the way and also in Kheerganga but it would cost you little high. Start your trek maximum by 10.00 am. Carry sun screen, hat, basic medicines, torch, Raincoat and a camp light if you wish to stay in a tent.
